Dear Diary,
The rebellion is getting worse! I do not know what to do. My parents say to stay out of the fight and let things take its course, that the King and his men will come out victorious, like they should. I am not so sure. There are less and less people who support the Monarchy everyday, more people are going against the King. Even my cousins are rebelling. I do not know who to believe. I know that if I was to join the rebellion and we lost, I would surly be put to death, but if I join and we win, then we are free from the rule of a King who only wants more money and power.
I would surly would not be an active fighter for I have seen things that give me nightmares for weeks. Neither side cares about who is in the cross fire of the fighting. My best friend, Ella, was shot and killed less than three days ago, and I miss her terribly. No one knows who shot her, it was absolute chaos. I do believe that for the time being I will not give my support for either side, I wish to live for me and for the life Ella.
For ever yours
Joie.

Heroes journey modern and old: revised
There are many differences and similarities between modern and ancient heroes. Modern heroes are different because of the way in which society has changed. Ancient and modern heroes are similar, because they are based on archetypes. These archetypes gives an author guidelines and specifications to use when writing, but most authors don't need to use them because it is natural to write a hero that way. It is natural to write heroes with these archetypes because we have grown up hearing and seeing the archetypes, without realizing.
The very large difference between ancient and modern heroes are the characteristics of the heroes themselves. While the old myths valued men who were strong, and came from a better upbringing than most. While modern heroes are mainly still men, there are examples of women being the hero, such as the Black Widow or Wonder Woman. Also, with the modern heroes, it does not matter who or where they are from. Anyone, with the right opportunities, can be a hero. An example is Captain America, he was from a lower class and was as skinny as a stick, but with the help of the super serum, a experimental serum created to turn men into super soldiers, became almost invincible, he survived 70 years of being frozen in ice.
Also the types of journeys that the hero goes on are different today. I Odysseus' story, he had with gods, where as in modern stories, heroes have to deal with aliens who think they are gods. For example, Stargate SG-1, where there is a race of little grey aliens who call themselves Asgardians, and like to meddle with peoples lives. For instance the main character gets kidnapped by the Asgardians and cloned and sent back as the clone.
Some similarities are because of the archetypes themselves. Such as the trickster or villain, or the Holy Grail. For example, in the Avengers, Loki is the trickster and the villain, and the Holy Grail is the Terasect. Another similarity is when a hero tries to save a certain area or people. In The Odyssey, Odysseus wanted to keep his family safe and return to them, while in Harry Potter, Potter just wanted to save the Wizarding Community.

Hero analysis
Homer portrays Odysseus as a very strong and confidant man. Odysseus also has his faults, such as over confidence at times. He follows the heroes journey just not in the same way we think of today.
An example from the poem that helps give an understanding to how strong and confidant Odysseus is when he is trying to get away from Calypso he shows he is till loyal to his wife and kingdom. On the journey off the island he is also forced to swim for days with no rest and only very little help.
An example of his over confidence is when he is a guest on Phaeacia Odysseus is challenged to a competition and he believes he will win against men that are half his age and are in better shape then he is. When Odysseus goes against Polyphemus he is very overconfident and taunts the cyclops.
The Heroes journey in The Odyssey follows the same path mostly except when Odysseus is on Phaeacia and is telling his story. This doesn't completely follow it because it goes through his trials before this story even started.

The differences and similarities between the modern and ancient heroes are about the same. Modern heroes are different because of the way society has changed. Ancient and Modern heroes were similar because of the archetypes that are hard to change.
The differences between the two are many. A very large distance between ancient and modern heroes is the characteristics of the heroes themselves. The old myths used to liked Men that are strong and come from a nicer upbringing than most. While modern heroes are mostly still Men there are examples of Women being the Hero, such as The Black Widow or Wonder Woman. Look at Captain America, he was from a lower class and was as skinny as a stick, but with the help of the super serum became a super solider. Or maybe Bruce Banner/Hulk, he was a scientist and had an experiment go wrong.

Penelope- Writing Wed. 9/19/12
18 Year. It has been 18 years since I last saw my husband. Odysseus was called to Troy to fight in the great war. The war has been over for 8 years. That much I know for sure. I don't know if he my husband is still or live or if died in battle.
Telemachus, my son by Odysseus. He never knew his father except from stories. Telemachus now is leaving to search for his father and bring him and his men home. I have not yet lost hope that Odysseus is still alive, and trying to find a way home. That is why I never picked a suitor.
My son and husband, both are gone. Let the Gods protect and watch over them. I know they will go through many trials and hardships. I hope that they do not give into grief or rage or hopelessness. Let them live to see and rule Ithaca again. Oh Zeus! Protect Them! Protect them...

The Elemental Race.
Every thousand years or so a group of four special people are born. These four people are known as Elementals. Elementals are born when the world is going through a change in power. Each Elemental controls one of the four main elements; Earth, Fire, Water or Air.
--------
James Williams, a sixteen year old, is currently standing in the middle of his ten year old sisters room, staring at a letter. Everything thing in the room is tron apart and strewn everywhere. The reason James is staring at the letter is that it is a ransom note, for his little sister. Sam, his precious, innocent, little sister, the only blood family he had left, was gone. He just didn't want to believe it.
There was no one for James to tell either. His parents have been dead for a year, the government and law enforcement are in the middle of a political war, and his "guardians" are on "vacation". The only people that James could trust are his two best friends; Alexandria 'Ally' Stetson, and William 'Will' Markson.
The thing about James, Ally and Will is that they aren't normal, and they know what they are. They are three of the four Elementals. James, Fire, has natural fire red streaks in his black hair. Ally, water, has natural ocean blue streaks in her brown hair. Will, earth, has natural grass green streaks in his blond hair. At midnight on their sixteenth birthdays they received the streaks and inherited the knowledge to control their powers, but only subconsciously. They also know that there is another, the Air Elemental. They just don't know who or where.
All three of them agree that Sam needs to be found. They also agree that it could be a trap for them to be either killed or captured.
--------
After much indecision the three Elementals decided to go after Sam and worry about the consequences later. The problem? Where do they start looking......

Doctor Who Archetype
An archetype is a universal symbol in any story. Such as an orphaned hero, a villain/shadow, a journey or a destruction via flood or fire. An example of a story that follows this is Doctor Who (2005). It shows several examples of archetypes. They would be, the orphaned hero, shadow/villain, and a destruction via fire.
The orphaned hero in Doctor Who is the Doctor himself. In the show his planet was destroyed by fire. Another one of the archetypes. He was the only survivor of the destruction. The Doctor is called the on coming storm. For this I also believe that he could be classified as a anti-hero.
The shadow figures in the show are the Daleks. They are bit different than most in the fact that no matter how many times the Doctor defeats them they are never gone. They are a reoccurring them in the show.
The Doctor has many companions over the series. I believe they represent the Child archetype. Because they are innocent. They know nothing of the world they are being drawn into. Also when their done traveling they are no longer the innocent people that started out. These are all the archetypes from Doctor Who (2005).
